Welcome to BIT Circus 2015 at Umeå University, Sweden, August 26-27!

Axel Ruhe, BIT’s Editor-in-Chief for the last twelve years, recently and unexpectedly passed away while skiing in the Swedish mountains. It is a great loss that Axel is no longer with us. He made many profound contributions to numerical linear algebra and scientific computing over the years. Axel was always full of energy and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and joy.

Axel encouraged the planning of the next BIT Circus to be held during this summer. True to his spirit and in memory of Axel, the BIT Board supported that the next event will take place at Umeå University, August 26-27, 2015, where Axel started his academic career as Full Professor.

The circus motto is everybody is welcome, nobody is invited, and the main idea is that young researchers present their on-going work – everybody will get the chance to present a short oral (or a poster) presentation. The main purpose of the meeting is to encourage networking as well as exchanging ideas. In particular we are interested in efforts that cover topics such as numerical analysis and modeling, efficient and robust algorithms, software, and challenging applications, as well as their interplay.

Besides the short presentations there will also be a few invited presentations, including a presentation by the new BIT Chief Editor (to be announced).

Program

The symposium will start at lunch time, Wednesday, August 26th, 2015 and end Thursday, 27th, 2015, around 17:00.

There will be a Conference dinner Wednesday.

Registration (deadline June 12, 2015)

The circus, including meals, is free of charge for everybody. Advance registration is required. Since the number of participants is restricted (concerns mainly the free accommodation), registrations will be handled on a first-come basis.

Accommodation

We have a limited budget to cover hotel accommodation for Ph.D.-students and PostDocs. Travel expenses are not covered.
The participants will be staying at Scandic Hotel Plaza Umeå.
