  On-site Registration:

  On-site registration will take place on Sunday, June 14 for tutorials and on Monday, June 15 for the PARA98 workshop from 08.00 a.m.

  Conference Fees

  The tutorial fee covers tutorial handouts, lunch and coffee during breaks.

  The workshop fee covers workshop material, workshop proceedings (book published by Springer Verlag), three lunches, coffee during breaks, welcome reception and workshop banquet.

  The deadline for the early registration fee is Monday May 18, 1998. This deadline will be strictly observed and the early registration fee applies only if the payment has been received by this date.

  Hotels

  The Conference Secretariat can offer participants hotel rooms at a special congress discount price. Rooms will be booked on a first come first served basis. If nothing else is stated, breakfast is included in the prices. Rooms have been reserved at the following hotels:

  Uman Home Hotel

  Uman Home Hotel is situated in downtown Umeå close to the River Ume. The main building is an old medical officers villa with a cosy and pleasent atmosphere. The prices also include afternoon coffee, an evening sandwich, newspapers, jogging overall, a cold draught beer after a sauna bath etc. The hotel has 89 rooms and a total of 178 beds.

  Umeå Plaza Hotel

  Umeå Plaza Hotel is located in the centre of Umeå, between a pedestrianized street and the River Ume in the heart of the city. Right at the top, on the 14th floor, there is a most stylish sauna with a wonderful view of the city. The hotel has 196 rooms.   Hotel Björken

  Hotel Björken is located nearby the conference location (300m). The hotel has 246 nice rooms and offers besides the reduced prices (see below) a unit price for 4 up to 7 nights to a total cost of 2000 SEK. In the unit price alternative, the level of room service is slightly reduced, for example, the room is cleaned and the sheets changed just once a week.

  Confirmation of hotel reservations

  You will receive a confirmation of your hotel reservation with complete information about the hotel name and address. When you receive the confirmation (hotel voucher), please check that it shows the correct arrival and departure dates. The hotel voucher must be presented to the hotel registration desk on arrival. Any changes in your hotel reservation prior to the workshop must be addressed to the Conference Secretariat.

  Notice, that in all cases (except for the Hotel Björken unit price alternative) the cost for accommodation is paid directly to the hotel. For the Hotel Björken unit price alternative the cost (2000 SEK) must be paid after confirmation (from the Conference Secretariat) and in advance to Umeå University.

  Transportations

  Transportation to Umeå

  The easiest way to travel to Umeå is via Stockholm Arlanda, the main international airport in Sweden (650km south of Umeå). The domestic flights from Stockholm Arlanda to Umeå (<1h) are serviced by SAS and Braathens. Some of the SAS flights are operated by Falcon Air. To get the best price ask for an Apex ticket for the complete flight including the domestic part in Sweden. To get the lowest fare for the domestic flights you normally have to travel from Stockholm on Saturday June 13. Alternatively, your international travel must include a Saturday night. It is also possible to go by night train from Stokholm to Umeå (> 10 h).

  A bus service from Umeå Airport to the University (nearby Hotel Björken) via Umeå downtown is available with all flights, the fare is SEK 30. Taxi fare from the airport to the city centre hotels will be approx. SEK 100, and from the airport to Hotel Björken approx. SEK 125. Ask for a unit price for the travel from Umeå airport to your hotel.

  Transportation between hotels and conference site

  There are public bus transportations between downtown (Vasaplan) and university campus (busnumbers - saturday and sunday: "61 Carlshöjd", "68 Östra Ersboda", "69 Västra Ersboda" monday to friday: "1 Carlshem, "5 Tomtebo", "6 Västra Ersboda", "7 Västra Ersboda", "8 Carlshem", "9 Nydalahöjd"), and of course taxi services. A refreshing walk between downtown hotels and MIT-huset at campus takes approximately 25-30 minutes. It is a 5 minutes walk from Hotel Björken to the conference cite.

   

  Practical Information

  Language:

  Official Conference language is English. Simultaneous interpretation will not be provided.

  Weather and Dress

  In June, the weather is usually warm, 15°-20° C, while evenings may require a jacket or a light coat. At this time of the year Umeå offers more than 22 hours of sunshine per day! Come and enjoy it!

  Visa Requirements

  Participants coming from outside Europe and Scandinavia are advised to contact the nearest Swedish consulate or embassy in due time.

  Neither the organizers nor the Conference Secretariat are able to take any responsibility whatsoever for injury or damage to persons or properties during the conference. Participants are therefore kindly requested to take out their own personal insurances.
