An Overview of OpenMP

The purpose of this half-day course is to give a short overview of the most important aspects of OpenMP, v. 2.5.

Topics that will be covered:

  • Parallel for loops
  • Reduction
  • Mutual exclusion (locks, barriers)
  • Variables (private, shared, firstprivate)
  • Sections
  • Run-time library
  • Scheduling (static, ...)

There will be no hands-on for this course.

This course is intended as a refresher for those who feel the need to know more about OpenMP before participating in the Intel tools course that will take place May 18-19.

Participation is free.

Prerequisites: The participants are expected to have a basic knowledge of programming in C or Fortran.
