The Swedish Research Council (VR) and the Swedish Foundation of Strategic Research (SSF) have performed an evaluation of Swedish Research in Mathematics. In this evaluation Numerical Analysis including High Performance Computing is also included. The evaluation has been performed by an international committee of experts.
The research at the Department of Computing Science and HPC2N that was evaluated (funded by VR and/or SSF) received very high gradings.
HPC2N is in the process of procure a new HPC system. Please see "Upphandling av högpresterande beräkningskluster för tekniskt vetenskapliga beräkningar" for more information (in swedish only).

This course is given in collaboration between HPC2N, Umeå, and UPPMAX, Uppsala.
It runs week 47-51. Week 48 the course is given in Umeå, week 50 the course is in Uppsala.
More information can be found here: HPC II 2010
Apply now for large-level computing time at HPC2N. Deadline for application is 21 october at 15.00 hours.
Proposed projects will be reviewed by the Swedish National Allocations Committee (SNAC), a part of the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC). If granted, projects will be effective 1 January 2011.
On Wednesday June 30 from 07:00 to 19:00 there will be a planned cooling outage on the UmU campus.
Our computing clusters will not be running jobs during this time period.

On Thursday Dec 3:rd we will be doing maintenance on the /pfs/nobackup
file system hardware.
Due to this all clusters will be emptied of jobs and all accesses to the
file system will be disabled.
This work is estimated to take all day.

Abisko will be down due to maintenance on the cooling system 20160413 and 20160414.
During that time we will also perform some maintenance on the /pfs/nobackup file system.
This means that /pfs/nobackup will be unavailable both of those days.
No jobs will be allowed to run during this maintenance window.
*UPDATE 2016-04-14 19:00*
The system is now back online again.

Abisko is now back online after a two day maintenance window.
We have found some discrepancies regarding the quota information that are not yet fixed.
Some users have large differences between what the quota system thinks and what is actually there in the file system. This may cause some problems with hitting the file quota limit. If this happens please send a mail to support@hpc2n.umu.se and we will deal with it.
We will try to fix this problem during the next maintenance window in May.
For unclear reasons, accesses to AFS on the abisko login node just hung. With no way to fix it, we choose to reboot it.
