Dear users of HPC2N,
we want to inform you about the latest sets of new hardware available on Kebnekaise.
During the spring and summer we have installed some new nodes, both pure
CPU nodes and GPU nodes.
All nodes are based on AMD Zen4 CPUs. The pure CPU nodes have 256 cores/node.
Most of the GPU nodes have dual Nvidia L40s cards, two nodes have
Nvidia quad-H100 SXM5 cards, and two nodes have 6xL40s cards.
We have now enabled our new AMD based nodes for production use.
The new nodes are AMD based cpus, both zen3 and zen4. Some have GPU's attached.
They are running Ubuntu Jammy (22.04).
We have
- one zen3 node with 2x64 cores
- two zen3 nodes with 2x24 cores and 2x Nvidia A100 gpus
- one zen3 node with 2x24 cores and 2x AMD MI100 gpus.

Akademiska Hus is performing a perodical revision of the power to the MIT-building.
This affects the power to the compute clusters at HPC2N including the access nodes.
The work requires the power to be turned off and thus all clusters will need to be drained and taken down.
We have therefor set a reservation on the clusters preventing any jobs from running during that time frame.

Batch queues are down. We are currently investigating. The queues will be up again as soon as we have fixed the problem.
This news will be updated.

The problem has been solved and the queues are up again.
On Wednesday 2024-03-20 09:00 we will perform a minor maintenance on Kebnekaise for about one hour.
The batch system will be unavailable for submitting new jobs or looking at the batch queue.
Running jobs will not be affected.

Maintenance is done and everything is back online
Due to technical service on a router for UmU, external HPC2N connectivity is affected intermittently during 2004-02-26, 18:00-22:00.
Jobs that are already submitted should continue to run, and jobs in the queue should start, but anything that needs external connectivity (possibly some of the license servers) may be affected.
The Thinlinc login to Kebnekaise is currently unavailable due to ongoing upgrade.
It should be finished after lunch

Thinlinc login to Kebnekaise is available again.
Our main router to HPC2N will be rebooting 2024-01-03 13:30 which will cause some network interruptions.
While this is being done no new jobs will be starting.
It is expected to be back online ~15:45
Due to an unexpected cooling failure around 00:30 on 2023-12-04 Kebnekaise is currently down.
We are currently investigating why this happened and will bring Kebnekaise back online once we have established the cause.

Kebnekaise is now up again.
We are going to upgrade the file system for projects and home directories, /proj/nobackup and /home.
There is a maintenance window for this from 2023-11-15 08:00 - 2023-11-15 17:00.
No jobs will be allowed to run during that period and login nodes will also be disabled.
This is synchronized with electrical and cooling maintenance work on 2023-11-16 to minimize total downtime.

The maintenance is now finished and batch system and login nodes are back online.
